Thursday 4th December 2003
The second "opening" night took place at Sub Logic on the 4th December. The
Royal George had been left behind due to their “easy listening” music
policy, which also fitted the decision to move the night to a proper
late night clubby bar that would better suit the LCN music policy and
be available on a Saturday.
Firstly a “trial” Thursday night was run to convince the management that we
could fill the place, that our music fitted the venue and clientele and to
generally gauge a reaction.

The crowd warming up…
The reaction seemed to be good. A proper dancefloor made a difference, even on a sober-for-some week-night, but then the right tunes and the right crowd will make anyone dance. The timing seemed to be good, just before christmas so everyone was in a festive party spirit, but not too late in December when everyone is partied out and broke. Being a “school night” didn’t seem to bother anyone, as those in the mood, those with the next day off or those just unemployed set to work on the bar, even creating a queue at one point, which cant be a bad thing from the managements point of view.

The host mingling with the guests
The music kicked off before the bar had even opened with Leigh eager as ever to get on the decks, filling the corners of the comfy bar with his supportive friends. ‘Dreams’ by Kings of Tomorrow dropped in amongst the mixed up house, breaks and prog as he got things off to a good start. Other top tunes from the rocking Australian were ‘Twisted’ by The Camel Riders and ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ by Hussler’s Revenge. Not a bad warm up from a man who’s only been spinning for a few months.

Leigh doing his thing

Leigh refusing to stop doing his thing!
After an hour, Justin came on and got everyone moving, particularly to the
unlikely anthem of Radioslave’s remix of Kylie’s ‘Slow’. He kept it
lively and interesting, mixing up the rhythms and choosing tracks to
get the feet going. Eric Kruppers remix of Submarine ‘Sunbeam’ also
went down a storm at the end of his set, as well as the ever-popular
‘We in Music’ (with the funkiest bassline on earth) proving why it was
we picked a venue like this: even with only a score of people dancing,
the atmosphere was lively, busy enough for even the shyest bar-leaner
to have a wiggle without being noticed.
“It was the best gig I’ve done in years!” he said afterwards. “Come on!” said
the attending masses…
Let’s ‘ave it!
Simon followed him playing a deeper, more progressive house set, full of swirling epic melodies and drifty vocals. Top tunes from the man from Edgware were ‘In My Mind’ by Anarcussan and a ‘Nirvana - Come as You Are’ bootleg, a fucking awesome mash up that turned all heads in the bar. The night finished on Bedrock’s “Heaven Scent”, an homage to one of the clubs and DJs that has been an inspiration for Lost City Nights from the start.

Happy, smiling, dancing girlies…
Everyone who came had a good time, it was good to see some unknown faces in the crowd, showing we do have the power to pull in the public, the new venue was definitely an improvement, and more importantly, we were asked back to do a Saturday night in the New Year. Bearing in mind that the promotion for this weeknight was all word of mouth, with no flyers made up, no listings guides contacted, there were easily enough people present to make the atmosphere: it can only get better and if I was reading this (and not writing it), I for one wouldn’t want to miss it.

Refusing to go home?
